Questions!

"The greater philosopher a man is,
the more difficult it is for him to answer
the foolish questions of common people."
           Henryk Sienkiewicz

While in the city running around doing errands with M, I see what I think is a great photo-op. We are sitting at a local food establishment; I am half way through my meal when I see this. I dash out of the restaurant to capture the moment, making M question my sanity.
I do not know why but something about the reflection on the water, the rain, the busy back round of the city, and these simple shoes made me think. I love when that happens.
This photo gives me lots of questions.

Did this person take off their shoes, swim across the puddle, not wanting to get them wet?

Did someone after his, or her workout, eat a burger sitting on the sidewalk, and then forget them?

Are they some kind of protest statement outside this eating establishment because of the sign?
“ No shoes, No service”

They sit here just on the edge of the puddle, waiting. We will never know why.

Questions, with no answer.    Strange; The questions or just maybe the photographer?

  1. Love this. It reminds me of one of my most fav quotes:

Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves…do not seek the answers which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them and the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.

  8. I always question when I see work boots hanging from hyrdo lines. perhaps a country thing? or did the hydro fellow pass out and this is his life marker. Cty Rd 2 near Rice Lake has boots turned over on fence posts....like grave markers. I always wonder. great post.

  14. Love this.
It probably depends on who you are...as to where your thoughts "run" to.
If it was me, I would wonder if the runner stopped to take these off just to try out the new Barefoot Running phenomenon that has been going around. I would just want to run barefoot in the rain:)))

  15. I just have to wonder how tall a woman would have to be to wear THOSE shoes! ; ) GREAT picture. My son took some awesome pictures of a pair of his old boots down by the river - they are REALLY cool. Perhaps I will ask him if I can share them on my Blog.

  16. Yes, the situation poses a lot of questions. My guess is the shoes were set down while loading a car and then forgotten. I've seen that kind of thing happen several times. Whatever the reason, I understand the desire to save the moment even at the questioning of your sanity.
