Unspoiled!

Which is the bliss of solitude.

    William Shakespeare

The sky is a beautiful blue; the sun is bouncing off the new fallen snow. The ice still on the trees covered with the fluffy white snow sparkling in the sun. The branches curve to the ground laden with the snow, and ice. The icy bushes hanging on the rail fence shine and seem to dance with the shadows and the light.
I look ahead and there are no tracks, I look behind and see only my own. It is early in the morning and a brisk -24c wind is blowing from the North.  The solitude is incredible, even the animals are snuggled in their hiding places trying to keep warm. There are no birds flying overhead. It is like being on my very own planet with no sounds except the inhaling and exhaling my own breath, the pounding of my racing heart, and the creaking of the heavy laden trees. My Dad’s voice in my head “Nothing better.”

I make my way over the rocky ridge, and duck under the downed branches covered with ice. I pass my favourite rock now snow and ice covered. I make my way to the pond. The sun making the strands of tall grass and tree branches shimmer like beautiful diamonds.

I come across tracks, as I get deeper in the bush and more sheltered from the wind. Coyote, deer, wild turkeys, and little rodents have ventured out looking for food. I am very quiet hoping to see more than tracks. I can see my breath float into the air like little ice crystals. I step out of the bush into the clearing, into the sun and its warmth on my face. If I stay out of the wind and in the South side of the bush it is very pleasant.

I could stay here all day. This unspoiled wilderness is why I could never leave here. It is my little piece of paradise all wrapped up in what looks like fluffy clouds, and diamonds.

Later.

  6. You have a nice storm there to change the look of your place. Maybe there will be enough for you to get out your snowshoes. I enjoy solitude too and find it odd that some people can't seem to go anywhere alone. Thanks for the beautiful snow photos. We are STILL snowless! Maybe tomorrow?
