Meeting Spenny!

And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow–rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
                John Masefield

So I was sitting on the rocky shore minding my own business thinking about stuff, you know the stuff you don’t want to think about? I picked myself up and went to explore this rocky treasure trove, as everyone knows there are always treasures to find anywhere if you are looking. I walked with my head down searching for shells, glass, feathers oh yes and that elusive treasure chest I have been unsuccessfully searching for on beaches since I was a kid after reading about Captain Cook and those pirates.

I came upon the most incredible lake front house, creating visions at my own attempts of fancy beach houses made of sand on the beaches of my youth. I was so impressed with the imagination of this young girl/boy. I can see an amazing career awaiting this skilled builder. Just look at that attention to detail. I at that very moment, was kind of wishing I was Alice in Wonderland and able to make myself very small and live there forever.” Sticks and stones may break your bones” or in this case it makes for one awesome lakeside condo.

I pulled myself away from the condo and continued to comb the rocks, when suddenly Spenny comes barreling up to me, OK by now you know Spenny is a dog, a big wet dog with the most amazing ability to make you smile. He was soaking wet and searching for treasures on the beach just like me. His owner asked me why I was lying on the ground with my camera aimed at a feather, obviously he has never read my blog, I explained that I was taking photos and he just said “OH”. I at this point was thinking that he was thinking, oh no another weirdo, and he was going to wander off or run off depending on how weird his imagination thought I was. He stayed; he told me Spenny loved to fetch balls from the lake. He asked if I would like to see that and photograph it, at this point I must admit he must have thought I was a reporter and I went with it. After a shot or two, I started thinking there may be a law against impersonating a reporter so I explained to him I was a blogger and he said that was OK, then I went with it.

I watched as this green fuzzy ball spun through the air and splashed in the water, that is when the, I must say a little chunky and definitely needs some exercise, Spenny bounded into the cold water splashing with his tail wagging. I was grinning ear to ear. He came back with the ball but would not give it up. Apparently Spenny is very smart, he needed a cookie and then he would drop that ball instantly, I now knew why Spenny had a few extra pounds. I watched this play over and over again and it never ceased to make me smile and laugh aloud.

I did find my treasure that day; it came all wrapped up in a slobbering, drooling, licking tongue, droopy eyed, wet fuzzy white coat with a happy wagging tail. Thanks Spenny.

Later

I may be absent for a couple of days, as I am off searching for more treasures and I am not sure what that may bring there may be mobile blogging involved. See you soon I think.

  3. Oh my, Spenny looks just like my old dog Larsson; so much so that I wondered where you'd gotten a photo of him at first! Thank you so much for that smile and I'm glad he was able to give you one as well.

Methinks you spot things like the lakeside condo so easily because your heart, like the builder's, is still sweet. I hope you find the treasures you seek and that they are even richer than you thought they would be. *hugs*

  10. Lovely post and photos ! I to camera in hand go looking for treasures . Nothing like wondering amongst nature with camera taking in all the sites , sounds and smells around you ! I can easily get lost in it all just me and my camera ! I usually tell folks that I am sure think I am nuts with some of the positions I get in to get a photo that I am merely an amateur photographer ! Hope you find more wonderful treasures ! Have a great day !

  21. I think it is so great for dogs to be able to play and swim. We had a poodle once that the only time she got into the water was by accident. Haaa ahaaa a a...one day I looked out the back window to see her standing in the hot tub seat...could not get out. I do not know how long she had been there, the quaking little girl..rescued!
