Frank and Friends! (2 of 2)

Excellent authority tells us that the right laughter is medicine for weary bones.
                                            George Santayana

Hey Frank, Florence and you too Rebecca; Get out of that tree, do you want to fall? “Aw shucks we were just having a little fun” says Rebecca. I knew that girl was going to give me trouble. I guess I should really blame Frank as he appears to be at the top of the tree and the girls are struggling to hold on. I am not coming to get you, you have to get down yourself, I say in my sternest voice while secretly laughing under my breath. I remember my Mom saying the exact same thing to me. Oh yes now I remember, I fell and landed on my head; I help the girls down, Frank can get himself down. “I can see everything from here” says Frank. OK Frank enough is enough you are making me nervous. “Alright.” Down he climbs.

Frank runs over to climb onto a rock and the girls are right on his tail, he bounds up the side of the rock and exclaims “I am the King of the castle, and you’re the dirty rascal.” Florence asks “What’s a rascal Rebecca?” “I am not sure Florence but let us get to the top and knock him off.” “But Rebecca he has the Bear Bell and we may need it.” “Oh yes I forgot, let us climb to the top anyways.” The girls struggle but get to the top and they all start laughing and then talking about how happy they are to be free running in the bush.

Frank soon grows tired of the rock and heads over to the big stump with the mushrooms growing from it. “Buttons I am so hungry, can I just take one nibble?” No Frank, it may be safe for the Squirrels but it may not be safe for you; I have some water in my bag and a cracker, come down and get it. “Not right now, I want to enjoy this before it is covered in snow” “What is snow?” asks Florence.

Frank pipes up and tells them that he seen it in a book the other day. “There were lots of pictures and I read about how Canada in the winter time especially near Christmas has fluffy white beautiful clouds covering everything.” “I read that it is very cold so you must dress warm.” Rebecca asks “Why is there no snow now Frank?” “I do not know, but I am sure it is coming soon.” Florence jumps in “I really want to see this snow, it sounds so pretty.” “Can we play in it Buttons?” Sure we will have to make sure you are dressed warm though. “Yeah!!!”

Rebecca tells Frank and Florence that she has heard many stories about her ancestors. “I heard that they lived in the mountains and ran free in a place called Alberta” Frank and Rebecca listen quietly and so do I. “They ran through the mountains and the bush free and played in this snow.” “I wish I had lived there too.”

Frank jumps in and reminds Florence that she can run free on the farm; he looks at me “Well as long as Buttons lets us”. We will have to listen to her more and not run around so much.” I smile and tell Frank that they are being pretty good now and I am sure they will run free here on the farm if they learn to listen and be careful. I only want to keep them safe. Rebecca tells Frank and Florence “We are going to be good and Buttons will get us all a Bear Bell and we will run free, that is going to be wonderful.”  I look at Frank, Rebecca, and Florence and say; oh yes it will be fun, but for now I think we should all head back to the house and get some lunch, what do you think?

“OK” Frank says, “Buttons thank you it is so beautiful here and I wish everyone could come here and see this magical place.”  So do I Frank it always makes me happy. Now let’s go; back in the backpack. "Be careful we do not lose the Turkey feathers we found" says Rebecca.

This time there was no protesting, they all piled in the bag and I am pretty sure they fell asleep on the hike back. I wonder which one of them is the snorer?

Part One if you missed it can be found here.

Later

We now have snow on the ground it is beautiful.

I want to wish everyone Peace and Happiness for the holidays. I will be enjoying this time with my family and giving them my undivided attention. I will return in the New Year. Let us not forget about those who are struggling to find happiness and joy during this season. Make a difference; it does not always have to be something big sometimes simple things like a kind word or a smile will make that difference for someone. Hugs and smiles are free. Merry Christmas and see you in 2013.

I will be back with stories about more healthy calves, an old childhood home that is still standing, tales of family and life on the farm, not to mention Frank and friends.  Hugs. B
