The Introduction!

To him whose elastic and vigorous thought keeps pace with the sun,
the day is a perpetual morning.
                                  Henry David Thoreau

I was a little nervous but very excited, I have to say it kind of felt like a first date, very strange indeed. This was the day I was to introduce my special gift “Her” to my world. I packed “Her” up in the comfy case she came in and I pulled on my coveralls and those Cadillac boots, I mixed the milk bottle for Annie and off we went to jump in the tractor and start my chores. I set “Her” very carefully behind the seat right beside that warm bottle of milk for Annie. She will be safe there.

I found myself rushing through the chores hoping there was not going to be anything that needed extra attention today. Annie has at least for today figured out one bottle will be all she gets till night time and she runs over to eat hay with her friends. I actually think they are eating and talking with their mouths full. That makes me smile knowing she has fit in so nicely with the herd.

Speaking about fitting in nicely; I climb back into the tractor, set the now empty bottle behind the seat and pick up this precious gift wrapped in its own comfortable world. I have to tell you it is bitterly cold out here today and there is a winter storm with lots of snow coming. I have Melissa’s little camera in my pocket just in case my new camera does not like the cold or is not ready. I sling “Her” safe in the comfortable little case over my shoulder. I climb the gate and follow those new Deer tracks that are now over top of my tracks to Gracie’s Lane and through that part of the bush using Melissa’s camera for now. You see I am heading for a special place to introduce “Her” to my world.

I see many wonderful sights and stop and listen to the hammering of a Downy Woodpecker oh how I wish I could get closer but he is more interested in finding more old trees to ravage so he flies from tree to tree. It is so still back here there are no other noises than that Woodpecker and the snapping of branches banging together as the wind blows hard from the West. I hear a crack and bang and notice on the other side of the fence a Century Old Maple struggling to hold on to a dead branch. I find myself cheering for the old branch to hold on and I hope it will make it through this upcoming storm. I remind myself to come back after the storm to see.

Finally after hiking through the bush and taking in the sights and sounds of the bush that I truly love I make it to my special destination. I slip the fancy camera bag off my shoulder and pull out that very special gift. I cradle “Her” gently in my hands and tell “Her” this is where she will be spending a lot of time and I know she will learn to love it as much as I. I do not rush to make her work we take our time; I walk around and let her get used to the incredible sounds of peace and nature and the cold. She tells me she is ready, so I take off the lens cap. I am pretty sure I heard a gasp, and then I knew she was truly going to love it here as much as I am going to love having “Her” here.

This was an incredible first date and despite that bitterly cold wind and the lack of a variety of colours I can see this is going to be a perfect match. Thank you again my extremely generous friend she is truly loved.

I really have to name “Her’ something. Any ideas?

Melissa you may have your camera back now and Thank you.

  21. Oh my goodness, is that a sugar shack????
The snow is coming down here but I'm sure it's nothing compared to what's happening down your way.
A couple of friends and family down Peterborough way tell me they have a good 25cm already and it's still booting down.
Enjoy your new friend, won't be long and you'll beel more comfortable with her.
