Time Lost!

I only know one truth;
Work alone makes you happy.
And the soul truth of which I am certain,
I am always forgetting.
            Jules Renard.

Happy Birthday Tess. Love you.

ANNIE
Feeding Annie that nice warm bottle of milk and staring at the bush on the other side of the stream I could not help myself, I had to go and surround myself with its beauty. I watched Annie finish it off and ran to the tractor, threw the bottle behind the seat and grabbed “Leo” (my camera) and then I remembered I forgot my snowshoes at the house. I was not going to let that stop me, I headed out without them. I hopped the fence.

I was thinking I could follow the deer tracks I knew would be there as I have not been back here for a couple of days and now that the snow is melted down I am sure they have a nice trail. I see my old snowshoe tracks and the deer tracks on top. I have my Cadillac Boots on and did not sink in too much. Oh now this is a perfect way to spend a Valentine’s Day with the “one” you love. I am talking about Mother Nature she is high on my priority list.

I make my way up to the ridge and notice the Deer have been slacking off a little as I cannot get to my rock or that old branch; they have been sticking to my trail and have not really made a path to where I wanted to go. I guess I should have brought those snowshoes. I decide to make my way back down to the valley where the trail is pretty good. Oh I love it back here I seem to get so engrossed in the feelings I have back here I forget time and obligations waiting at the house.

The cows are fed, Annie is fed so I am not too worried I maybe should have had a little breakfast and maybe have grabbed a drink, I was in my own world and knew I would be just fine, it is not like I was in the desert or anything, I grab a handful of snow and let it melt in my mouth. I never know when this urge to run to the bush will arrive and so I may not be prepared but I was happy. If I had to prepare for every great moment in my life I am sure it would not be as sweet. Mother Nature will take care of me if I pay attention.

I make my way back to the Sap House where I had seen Coyote tracks leading into the open window but had not seen any tracks exiting during my Sunday morning hike, I vowed I would come back to see if the Coyote who probably bedded down for the night in that wicked storm had left yet.

I see the snow covering the Sap House and smile as I see the sun bouncing off the trees and casting shadows on to the roof. This is why I come here it is magnificent. I can see the tracks exiting the window so I know he/she left, I wonder if this was to be its new home.

I make my way back to the tractor I left sitting in the middle of the cows after feeding them. I notice Annie with her friends with a mouthful of hay, her tail is wagging. I hop into the tractor and head back to the house and those obligations you know like cooking, cleaning, and being a happy homemaker. I wonder where all my time goes I never seem to find time to get all that housework done. I set my snowshoes by the back door to remember to take them with me early in the morning when I have to do the chores again.

Time lost? I think not.

On Monday it is a holiday here in Ontario Canada called Family Day. I will be celebrating this wonderful day with my Mom, My Hero and hopefully if it snows some more Mother Nature. Wish you were here girls maybe next time. HUGS .

  24. Yes, time well spent. Snow is a wonderful surface for revealing who has been by for a visit. I took my snowshoes on a trek along the river the other day and saw plenty of tracks. I though of you and want to send along a big, "thanks" for encouraging me to get my own snowshoes.
