Spring Fever and Travel Dreams!

The use of travelling is to regulate imagination by reality, and,
Instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are.
                                  Samuel Johnson

The winter has always made for a huge playground for me, hiking or snowshoeing in the bush and exploring every little piece of this world I love but I must admit I am growing a little weary of the damp cold and those dull brown and grey days. It is snowing here again this morning on this first day of spring and I am dreaming of last year when at this time I was getting ready for the dream I had dreamed of for my whole life, that incredible Train to Vancouver trip.

Melissa had surprised me with train tickets to Vancouver in coach class which would be like sitting up for four nights in a seat while observing the most glorious views of this incredible country. I remember the excitement at hearing this news and the fear of what to pack and what to expect and the worry about preparing to leave My Hero with all the chores and looking after everything alone for two weeks part. Oh that was such a wonderful trip. I have dreamed of doing it again ever since I came back to the farm. I had vowed I will do it again.

Well there will be no trip to Vancouver this year like that one but that will not stop me from dreaming. I crave a trip as if it was a piece of chocolate that I can see but cannot reach. This is what spring does to me. I have to get off the farm before it becomes busy with planting, haying and work, work, work. I need to surround myself with colour and excitement.

I may not be able to go to Vancouver but just after Easter I will be going to the city of Toronto and Hamilton and experience all that those two cities have to offer as far as colour, art and music. Best of all I am going to be spending time with my girls and we will take in all we can till the next time we will be able to get together. I am pretty sure any Mother will know what I am talking about here. I have not seen my girls since Christmas and I need to be near them and experience that lost feeling of Motherhood and take in all the hugs I can get to put into storage for those busy crazy days that will be coming later in the spring when I will need to pull those memories out.

I look forward to exploring the Art Galleries and Museums and feel the vibe of the city. I look forward to getting into the heart of both those cities and experience the pulse that makes them thrive. There is something about the city that excites me and makes me want to experience everything I can. The strange foods in questionable places and finding out you cannot judge a book by its cover. I have reluctantly entered the most questionable dare I say dumpy places on the outside but, once I walked through the door I was surprised by the funky interior and the incredible food. I find college and university students know exactly where to find all those hidden secret places with the low prices and delicious food with an ambiance that is hidden from the world because of that questionable exterior. I look forward to finding more of these hidden gems.

I will have lots of time to myself to explore and experience the people and capture moments with Leo, this will be our first trip together. I know we will have fun. I will be trying a new way of blogging I will talk more about that on a later post. This is not going to be that trip to Vancouver but it is going to be just as memorable.
I may walk right passed some of my Bloggy friends in one of those cities but I am sure you may not recognize me as I will not be wearing those Pink Cadillac Boots or holding a big bottle with a calf named Annie following close behind.

You need only look for the girl with the huge smile, carrying a bag full of hugs probably sitting in a little café on the busy street enjoying a coffee and hopefully absorbing the sun listening to the humming pulse of those two cities. If I am lucky maybe in a questionable on the outside restaurant enjoying the hidden delights inside where others would not dare pass through the dumpy door, and loving every moment. If you see me just say Hi.

I have so much to do. It is not Vancouver but it will do.

Later

Nice to kick up your heels off the farm now and then. Hugging and connect with your girls for while after Easter will be relaxing and renewing .Oh all the wonderment you see everywhere . Good to switch it up a bit before the busy season on the farm.

  19. I took my two eldest ( then aged 9 and 11) from Ontario to BC on the train 13 years ago. My brother lived in Prince George at the time. I was excited about the trip but had no idea the impact the train would have on me! I can be ready to get on a train and do that trek again in 10 minutes! It was an amazing experience that yes, I MUST repeat again in my lifetime

I know what you mean about the vibe and excitement of cities. I feel the same way about Seattle, but I'm always glad to get back to my little town too:)

  32. heres some of my feral tips to you to make sure you have a REAL good time...

dont talk to strangers too much -"shes not just friendly, shes been living on a FARM...with lonely calves!" - they then tend to eyeball your wrists for a hospital ID to see if you had been let out recently...

its okay to eat the squishy part on the sushi things they bring out at the trendy hip restaurants, but not the little slices of ginger - UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES BITE THE GINGER (we are talking food here, not prince harry)

do not attempt to be too helpful while staying at the girls apartment. I found I was becoming invasive when i started to clean under their frig. It could have been their sock on the end of a flyswatter I was using to accomplish that...it didnt go over well.

and lastly, i want a postcard.

  38. What if imagination can always be reality?

We shall then be very careful when we imagine.

  39. Oh, Buttons, I hope you have a wonderful, amazing, restorative trip with your two wonderful girls!

I stayed in that hotel in your photo of Vancouver. My husband was on a business trip and hosting a booth at the Convention Center next door. Every morning a seagull landed on our window sill and waited patiently for a little hand out. What a smart Seagull! The city of Vancouver is so beautiful with it's blue glass windows and surrounding water and mountains. I hope you get to go back again. (I am 5 hours south) Enjoy your trip and your girls. (And thank you for your sweet comments :) Hugs xoxo

  46. Even though the chocolate is way up on the shelf, the memories of the goodness can bring a lot of smiles. Very best wishes on your fun adventure. Yes, and I'd take Feral Woman's advice about no cleaning under the fridge with a sock on a flyswatter.
