Blogger Blind Date!

If we were to make conscious and frequent effort in treating others with consideration,
the effects on us and society as a whole would be amazing.

My favourite place to hunt.
Olive's Oddments on Locke St. Say Hi to Dana.
I had my share of firsts on this trip to Hamilton but I think the one that had me the most nervous and turned out to be the most exciting and fulfilling was meeting a fellow blogger. Andrea of Rural Revival Farm and I had agreed to meet on the Friday just before I was to leave on Saturday. I was extremely excited and extremely nervous much like a first date but a blind date something I have never experienced. We had agreed to meet at the Starbucks just down from West Town Bar and Grill where I had left my brother and Melissa sitting I must mention with the bill (thanks Brother) as I rushed out, after finishing a delicious evening with great food and conversation. My Brother’s last words were let her talk and try to listen. He knows me so well; when I am nervous I tend to chatter on. I walked up Locke Street and went into the coffee shop. I ordered a coffee and waited till a young couple moved from the table by the window, I pulled my fuzzy red gloves from my bag and placed them on the table and waited, I pulled out my paper and pen to write, this has always calmed me down.

At this point I really have to tell you my biggest hope in blogging after two years has been to meet the people I have come to know and love in this my blogger world, this family that surrounds and supports me without limits. This is something I never thought would happen. Now I must say my biggest fear was to meet someone from my blogger family and them finding out I am not what they expected and they would be disappointed and that my chattering overzealous nature would scare them off.

Lots of firsts. Seen this at Olive's Oddments also.
I am at this moment sitting on the train reading my email on the ride back from this vacation and I opened a letter from someone I love in my blogger family telling me she loved the post Rural Revival Farm had wrote about our visit, something I had told only one person about. I was surprised and I just had to see what her first impression was. I know mine was amazing like meeting a friend you have known all your life. I had to know what that “First Blogger Blind Date” experience had felt like for her.

As soon as I read it I knew she understood me as well as I had understood her. We both felt the same way about our impromptu meeting. I knew Andrea as soon as she walked through the door of that Starbuck’s, I have no idea why, she was just as I had always imagined. A smart, funny, compassionate and hardworking woman who loves her Artist, her Glimmer twins, and her homestead. We were so engrossed in our conversation we had lost all track of time. Andrea had brought me a jug of fresh Maple Syrup she and her Artist had made I was so excited. I have to tell you that on mentioning in an email to Go West Feral Woman that I would be meeting Andrea that evening she said prepare to receive some Maple Syrup “That is what you Canadians seem to do”, yes we will have to meet someday too she is very clever. I love my blogger family and I am so happy I did not give into those irrational fears of meeting someone new.

The syrup made it home.
I am going to say that was the best thing I was brave enough to do, I loved meeting Andrea and learning more about her and I have no doubt there will be more Blogger Dates next time I am in the area. She gets me.

I am a little puzzled why she would think I looked “Sophisticated” I chalk that up to the $2. wool blazer I picked up for the trip, and my new haircut. I am so happy I never wore those Stylin' Coveralls and Pink Cadillac Boots even though I would not have had to use those Red Fuzzy Gloves for identification.  I guess I do clean up nice.  I also must say I did not find her shy at all, a perfect match in this Blogger Blind Date. Thanks Andrea I cannot wait to see you next time.

  4. It's funny how we all imagine what someone might look like just by a conversation, letter or email. At least you will know what I look like if we were to ever meet. I have posted pics on the odd accasion. Sounds like you both had a great meeting of like minds. Sue

  6. Glad you had a good trip, and a fantastic blind date!!! I think your image of the maple syrup is the best, in this post!! My Mom has some glass the same colour as the stuff in the first image - from their 40th anniversary. The last one they celebrated. She has sent it off to the Good Will...

  9. OH MY! THATS AWESOME! I'm so glad you got to meet a fellow blogger. And REAL maple syrup... I"M DROOLING DOWN HERE! Haven't had real stuff since moving away from the farm in upstate NY. We always had "Sugar Season". OH and the spread my grandma made from the skimming's was AMAZING! Thanks for bringing back such fond memories. AND GIRL!!! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! I couldn't have past that little machine up for anything - It IS GORGEOUS! I would have marched it to a UPS store and had them pack it up and ship it home for me. I do admire your ability to pass it up but just know I couldn't have. ;) lol

  22. Sophisticated? giggle thats because your brother told you to shush and listen LOL actually, i bet she was charmed as we all are with your writing, photography and your most open, giving heart, and your artist's soul, all wrapped up in that beautiful tiny Canadian package! Charmed, i tell ya!

You are a time traveler - and I think thats what links all of us bloggers together - we travel through all the dimensions of past, present and future and our eyes are open to it always. Being this open has its dangers, but since we seem to be of hardy stock, we muscle through it and blog on... ;)

now I gotta get packin' for the big trip to the city!

  29. Sophisticated and classy was just because of you, you're very beautiful, blazer or coveralls.
I am extremely impressed you picked up that blazer for $2!! I see we can do some thrifting together sometime too. : )

Feral woman's prediction of the maple syrup is amazing! I didn't know we Canadians were so predictable. : )

I liked hearing your brother's warning, too funny but I'm glad you were just yourself, keep sharing your good heart, for it's hearts like yours that make this a wonderful world.

Hugs to you B and so looking forward to our next visit. Maybe you'll bring Leo next time. : )

  31. Reading both of your blogs warms my heart. I worry our world is becoming too technical. My students talk about facebook and I was on it once and hated it. To me blogging is more personal. Like inviting someone into your home and life. I enjoy hearing about when two bloggers meet and it was a great experience. It also gives me hope that one day you can sit on my porch and enjoy a cup of coffee, or maybe you and I could sit in the woods and enjoy the calming effect of nature. I am so happy for you both.
