My Own Storage Wars!

The lucrative business of mystery.
               Edmund Burke

Last week on a whim I took My Hero’s advice and decided to venture to the Big City and check out a Storage Locker Auction Sale. I was intrigued after thinking about all those times while enjoying the show Storage Wars on TV with My Hero and Mom and listening to them shout “Yup” constantly never ceasing to make us all laugh. This was going to be fun.

I arrived there and had no intention of registering for a number because I did not expect to buy anything but I quickly found I was caught up in the excitement of my own imagination while thinking of treasure hunts and riches. I walked up to the man in the back of a big truck and proceeded to get the number (?) (I hope you did not think I was going to tell you which one), I was thinking this has always been my lucky number so you never know. I placed the number in my purse and pulled out my paper and pen and went to sit on a bench to wait till it started. I knew if nothing else came of this little adventure my own imagination would make this a very exciting day and hopefully an interesting story.

As I sat there listening to “The Regulars” talking and looking over to a parking lot jammed with cube vans, pickups and trailers I found myself dreaming of being a “Regular” someday, I knew I could do it I have always dreamed of chasing sparkling hidden treasures and that thrill of the hunt since I was a child and I am certainly not afraid of a little work.

All of a sudden a man walks up to me…….My secret was out; It appears when you pull out a paper and pen and snap a few photos the owner of the premises ultimately wants to know what you are up to. I explained to him I was a Blogger and gave the nice gentlemen my Blog address and hoped for the best. Welcome to my world Mr. I did not catch your name.

I overheard someone say to someone else “I hear you are going to be on TV?” I quickly looked around for the cameras while thinking to myself I do not want to be on TV, you know that whole famous anonymous Blogger thing and all (I hope you know I am kidding). I ran to get my hat and sunglasses just in case.

I could see a young couple who reminded me of the couple on the TV show, Brandy and Jerrod, young beautiful and determined.  I could not believe that there was actually a gentleman that looked just like Barry. This is the one character on the show that my Mom loves to watch, I seriously think you have to be over eighty to appreciate that mature distinguished look, I just don’t get it. I am sure time will change that way of thinking in my eyes. Speaking of eyes his sure do twinkle when he smiles, oh maybe that is the something my  Mom already knew.

There is quite a crowd here now; I am sure those shows on TV make it a very popular thing for people like myself to check out while dreaming of finding those treasures that others had packed away years ago and had for many different  reasons not remembered or circumstances had them losing all they owned. These thoughts made me a little sad. My thoughts were interrupted by the voice of the auctioneer and those thoughts were quickly forgotten.

“Six more minutes” Oh I am getting so excited. I wandered over to stand in the crowd then I saw a man who’s shirt says “Honest Bob” that is who I am going to go stand beside, that sounded safe to me. I was hoping this was not going to take all day I know Mom would be waiting for me but I am sure if I tell her where I was and who I was standing beside you know “Barry” (a look alike but Barry none the less), it would make her laugh.

We all gathered round while the auctioneer explained the rules before we walk through the gates.

1-   Cash only sales (I knew that would probably narrow down my choices as I thought about the money in my wallet).

2-   When that door opens no touching, moving or going into the locker (no problem that was the mystery part I already knew and was excited about).

3-   You must remove EVERYTHING regardless of what it is, be that garbage or treasure out of the locker he stressed EVERYTHING. You will own the locker it was to be your responsibility to clean it out. (I only had the Jeep so I was thinking about just how much it could really hold and who I could call with a truck if I needed too). I realized then that I may have been getting a little too caught up in this excitement).

With the rules set and my excitement growing, “The Regulars” and I follow the auctioneer over to the first door, he rolls the door up. I could see the lock that had been cut off lying just inside the door ………

  24. I'm very interested to learn what really happens on the sidelines of one of these events. On television it seems the only ones who ever bid are the Regulars. BTW did you bring your own gloves that look like skeleton hands?
