A man’s style in any art should be like his dress-
it should attract as little attention as possible.
First off I must apologize to my Pink Cadillac Boots for my being so excited about another. I truly still love you and you will not be replaced.
Am I the only one that remembers the original movie Footloose? Not the new one, I think the original was made a gazillion years ago I have no idea but I still remember the feeling I had once I saw the girl in the Red Boots, the boots that could dance, OK maybe not the boots but the girl sure made it look easy. I knew since that very moment I needed a pair of those boots logical or not.
I continued to dream of those boots and once I had a job that allowed for frivolous purchases I was on the hunt for a pair. This proved to not be an easy feat for my feet. I walked into a store one day and there they were, Wal-Mart had a bin full of Red Footloose Boots oh yes they did, do you believe that? I did not think so it was Wal-Mart in Ontario not in “The Wild West” anyhow, I bought a pair of leather boots which were not in any way similar to those boots I had coveted so long ago, they were beige not red and they kind of fit I knew they would stretch because they were genuine leather at least I think they were and I would wear them forever. They did turn a nice shade of red/pink when I put the oil to protect from the snow on them so that was it. The dreams of dancing the night away with the man I loved danced in my head and I did wear those boots all the time.
OK I wore them for a year or two periodically and I must say I for the life of me do not to this day remember the dancing the night away thing. I do know they eventually lived in the back of a closet with the other must have shoes and boots with dreams attached all collecting dust where I continued to drag them out once in a while to stimulate needed dreams and in reality vacuum the dust. Years later and with a healed broken toe from farming, a bunion on my right foot and wider feet (how does that happen) I put that dream behind me and I have no idea where those boots are now. I think they are still here somewhere. That reminds me I must clean that closet.
Fast forward to an upcoming dream wedding for our daughter on the farm with a twist…. everyone gets to wear cowboy/girl boots and there will be dancing the night away with the man I love once again. I searched for those never going to fit boots for a few days close to home, not really but I did look with no results. A trip to the city to see my frazzled yet excited daughter renewed those dreams and I could not be happier.
There is a thrift store in Burlington Ontario that was full of things I wanted to see and I was not really looking for boots just looking to see what they had. After walking the aisles looking at a variety of pretty things my eye shifted to something that I must have missed the first go around. High atop a shelf far from the shoe aisle sat a pair of Red Footloose Boots sitting waiting for a girl with a dream and a bunion on her right foot to come along. I pulled that pair of soft red leather boots off the shelf I immediately pulled off my still wet from the deep snow boot off and slid one on my right bunion foot, it fit like a glove. I pulled the other one on and then something magical happened…….this girl with a dream started dancing in the aisle of a thrift store thinking she was actually the girl with the Red Footloose Boots in a movie she had seen long, long ago. If anyone noticed I apologize but dreams do come true. I walked around and carried those old dripping wet winter boots in my hand. I found the bride-to- be who knew of my dream of Red Footloose Boots since she was a child and having to listen to those tales and she smiled. “Perfect”, How much?, I forgot to look.
I pulled off those beautiful obviously once loved boots that came from another girl who had also dreamed of dancing the night away after watching the movie Footloose, possibly the new version, and probably had a bunion on her right foot and gave them away for who knows what reason and I turned the right boot over to see the tag stuck to the bottom. $10. Wow both of us could not believe it. Sold……
I am now ready for that dream wedding of this girl who I love and I am going to be dancing the night away with the man I love while we watch both our daughters dance the night away with the men they love on a farm we always believed we would someday no matter the struggles make our children’s dreams come true and love. What could be better than that?
Well since every girl should continue to have some kind of dream to hold on to there happens to be a new dream for me now that this one seems to have been accomplished. Since those new Red Footloose Boots have very pointy toes….. hopefully someday they will take a trip and will come in very handy to guard against Rattle Snakes which seem to live there in Montana USA where I will someday visit a girl that continues to stir the imagination and the dreams of this girl in Ontario Canada and shares that belief that in time All dreams come true. Thank you Feral Woman.
