The Search Box and Self-Discovery!

Awkwardness is a more real disadvantage than it is generally thought to be;
it often occasions ridicule,
and always lessens dignity.
                  Philip Dormer Stanhope (Lord Chesterfield)

I have been blogging for a very long time now, well not extremely long, compared to some of you my Blogger friends I am a relative newbie but I do seem to talk a lot more about myself. I have 820 stories posted on here and with that cool little search box feature on my sidebar I started to type in random words like Cow, Hay, and Snow etc. etc. and discovered that I am getting quite repetitive and dare I say boring. I have no idea what to do with this “Now I know and no one told me till the other day” information. I am sorry I guess my life to at the very least, me, seems exciting. Meaning it is sometimes crazy busy in my life with not one boring thought in my head and other times well….. Booooorrring to some of you, according to my source (you really should have told me).

Calving time is approaching very quickly and I am sure there will be stories and photos to share but I ask myself “Will I be repeating?” I honestly hate repeats on the TV and tend to click to another channel over and over…. click click, click click searching for a new program that will peak my interest. This being said I would not like to be click clicked by my readers due to boredom. Those curly new faces soon entering this world after a winter of hibernation protected by their Mom’s will certainly be new but how many baby photos can a person reading this little old blog want to see before getting absolutely bored then…click click?

There will be that big wedding coming up and as stressful as it has become already I am pretty sure that with all that has been imagined during just the initial planning stage of this thing there will be some very interesting stories there. It seems like that subject is snowballing with new ideas and plans of every kind, at least in my head because of another search box called Google.
My Mom has been known to quote “The good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise” I love that and it is true. This is one subject (Wedding) that I know will be a repeated for quite a while, I will have to check in my search box but I am sure Barn Wedding has never been written about. Being curious I typed the word in my search box…. just as I suspected no Barn Wedding but….well it seems the word Barn has been consistently used over and over again.

Ladders…. now you should really go search for LADDERS if you don’t believe me….wow I am boring, drat so many stories about ladders and while I was searching I thought I would check out the words BOOTS ,PINK CADILLACS, or even MOM oh my gosh so many repeats. I must admit it is a bit addicting seeing what words bring what story, this searching a word in my story thing is not as boring as I thought it would be.

My Hero constantly does the Word Search in the Saturday paper and he finds it quite enjoyable I find it boring. I guess it all depends on the person. With that being said I have to go search some more words that may turn up in my Blog. Chocolate yes another big one oh this is going to be harder than I thought to not find those repetitive words.

My sister Pearly told me I write stories that are too long and she cannot read them because sometimes they are boring; could she be right?

Xylophone….finally that is a word that has not been repeated nor for that matter mentioned.

If you have this need to know what I am talking about just type in a word in that search box on my sidebar and check it out to see boring repeating addictive words in stories that may or may not be too long. You be the judge.
Let me know if you know of something I have not repeated and you would like to know more about it, apparently I drag out a story and some people cannot get to the end. (You should have told me).

Now that we are on the subject I have to ask; would you tell me if I had a piece of spinach in my teeth? Pearly I am positive would, whether I wanted to know or not... Thanks Pearly…..I think. Spinach I have to check that word out.

Later.

  1. Buttons, your blog is anything but boring. I love all your pictures, retrospectives, and stories from your world. You're one of my favorite connections on Blogger! What that person said was simply their opinion and theirs alone :)

  3. Miss B,
I frequently have the same thought. I talk about what is going on here at our ranch and take pictures of black cattle. I think that must get old and boring too.

I keep a reading and enjoying your blog. It's who you are and I enjoy your stories.

  10. Excellent post. This post is both thoughtful and humorous. Yes, I have to keep on thinking about repeating things, every once in a while I have to give my head a shake. If that spinach was in your teeth for many days I might tell you!!!

  11. You sound like I've been thinking...(did that make any sense?) I wonder how many time people want to read about cows, calves and baling hay. However...I don't get tired of hearing about your calves, cows and baling hay...or ladders, for that matter! It's part of who you are!! Our lives are encompassed by such things right now. It will be fun, though, to hear all about the wedding! :)

  14. Psst yes if you had green teeth I would tell you , but a piece of spinach today would tie in to the green wearing of the Irish green ~ so I might think it was suppose to be there ...Smile ( hmm no spinach) :))

  15. i do admit, you are one of my wordier bloggers. i follow a lot of more photo-prone posters. but you blog about what fills your life and fills your heart. and you lay it out there for the world. no excuses. :)

  18. was that your hand as a branch - what a cool idea??! so fun!! i love your sense of humor. we are having tons of snow here today. so cold. Happy St. Patrick's day to you!! i wish i had a cow to put a hat on ... i am so wishing for one but i think the neighborhood & hubby would have something to say about it... ha. ha!! ( :

personally i love blogs that have words (like yours) - i think i do enjoy words. reading words. i do have a problem of wanting to really interact & talk back in a good way with the owner of the blog, i want to speak at what you are speaking of ... so i wonder do they appreciate my comments ... i tend to be long winded ... & i see no problem with it ...but there are a lot of folks who wish to buzz in & be gone.. ... it's so tough!?!?!? so you keep doing what makes you happy. i think the blogs that are just pictures are kind of boring ... but to each his/her own. i have looked back on some blogs lately & the way they use to blog was much more funnier or entertaining ... what happened? i know a lot of folks want followers & keeping the herds happy but remember do you BLOG for you? or do you blog for the herds & birds? i blog for me ... i love it when folks stop by & comment. please don't get me wrong??! i love it. i love my friends. but i have to remember to be true to me. please continue if you wish - do what makes your heart happy. i love ya. my Canadian friend. you are rock, Ms. Buttons. (saying this with my Virginian accent. all sazzy & jazzy too. ha. ha!!) big big hugs. wink. wink. ( :

  19. I am one of those people that would tell you that you have a piece of spinach on your teeth because I hope that someone would tell me! You are definitely not boring, remember there are new readers every day and they don't always go back and read archives. Also after reading about your thoughts on the search box, I think I am going to take it off my blog.. ;) Blog on Buttons, please!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would say that your blog is comforting. That is not boring by a long shot. That is what so many of us need, so don't you go messing with perfection, Miss Buttons!

    ReplyDelete
  21. i don't find you the slightest bit boring! your stories always take me back to my own childhood memories of the farm! although, i am still waiting for your jumping from the hay loft stories! ;)

the only downside to your lengthy posts is my busy schedule. i'm not able to drop by as frequently as i would like and blogs are hard to read on my iphone. it's easier to check in on facebook when i catch a break between classes. i'm afraid i live in short bursts these days...but never change, buttons! i'm sure those who grew bored moved on long ago!
    *hug*

    Hugs~

  24. Well I like reading your thoughts and I also like you telling about the search box I didn't know that at all. Now I have to try it out.
Weddings well I am so glad this years isn't a wedding year. Even though ours wasn't that stressful I don't think but then of course I may be in a total state of denial about that. :) We do have lots and lots of good memories. I think a Barn wedding is the best ever.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have never been bored!!!! NEVER, we don't have to stay and read if we don't want to but you know we do, BORING NEVER!!!! You are a breath of fresh air and you write real.. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have discovered the search bar and find it interesting! Do you ever label your posts? I do, and at the bottom of my blog it shows what labels I have used the most. No surprise, "chickens" is the most popular haha.

I do love your posts so I say don't worry about repeating because everything in life is a cycle. Few things I like seeing more than little calves!

    ReplyDelete
  27. You are NOT boring!! I love your stories about your life and your memories and adventures. You are one of my very favorite bloggers, B. And yes, I would tell you if you had spinach between your teeth.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Cadillac boots and ladders and calves are part of your life and how I am getting to know about you. Frankly, the repetition helps since I follow so many bloggers. When I see the words "Cadillac boots", it's familiar and soothing in a way. Write the way you want and don't let others dictate how or what you write! Sometimes I am forced to skim lengthy posts due to time constraints, but I always find a nugget of funny, helpful, or interesting stuff here.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Buttons, you know me and I am a self-admitted not-nice person. I'll definitely tell you if you have spinach between your teeth and I have to tell you this:
    YOU ARE NOT BORING.

Don't buy into any negative stuff anyone tries to sell you 'cuz it ain't so.

Good grief; your posts make me laugh out loud, chuckle, snort, smile, cry, think and feel...how does any of that equal boring?

    *hugs*

  32. How funny. Keep writing and I'll keep reading. (I would tell you if you had spinach in your teeth - please tell me, too.)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your blog is wonderful Buttons! Don't ever change!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh, Buttons, at my age, everything I say is a repeat - when you live a long life, it goes with the territory! Don't listen to anyone else, beat your own drum. Your life is only yours, nobody else lives it or experiences what you do. Good writer's always write from their own experience. Maybe some people just don't like to read.....:) Just sayin'. I love hearing about your unique perspective on your unique life. Throw that google search thing away....I wouldn't call your writing 'repeats', I would call it a 'theme'. It's all in your perspective and that is what makes it special. And yes, I would tell you if you had spinach in your teeth! Love today's photos, especially the view up the amazing tree! Hugs, Karen

    ReplyDelete
  35. Buttons, I'll ask a rhetorical question: If I was bored with your blog and reading about your heart thoughts and life, would I come back, again and again? The answer would be 'No.' So there you go, I'm on repeat with you!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hmmmm, I'm thinking who cares? It's your blog, make it what you want! Gee you only have 357 followers, that must mean something! You go girl, write what you want!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I wouldn't worry about wordy posts or repetitive subjects...I am a fan and I visit as often as I can so I don't miss anything. Don't fret about your sister's thoughts...splurt a raspberry her way and keep on writing- we will all be right here, ready to read about whatever is on your mind. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dear B... my advice to you is to leave that search box alone and keep on just the way you have been.
I love seeing those pics of the newborn calves - and everything else. You write from the heart and it warms us all :D) xx

    ReplyDelete
  39. ... oh yes, I love your pics, ha ha that tree is quite a special one I'm guessing ;D)

  40. Buttons, I look forward to when a post is published by you. It is a joy to read you and enjoy viewing all your photos. It is never boring! I love the quiet walks you take, seeing your cows, and recent knitting adventure you took, very creative. No, not boring. It is interesting and nice to see how others live their life like yours. Keep it up and keep writing and clicking away on that camera of yours.

    ReplyDelete
  41. No. Not boring in the least. I often show Adrian your posts because he LOVES cows. I always find your posts a bit of respite. And even if you did repeat (which I don't think you do), I'd still come when I am able...to smile. :)

  42. It is NOT boring! We all post what surrounds us and what we are living day to day.

And I love your pink boots!

  44. Personally I like your blog just the way it is. I think to much pressure is being put on bloggers to constantly be coming up with exciting & new stuff. The point of a blog to me is to share what you love and about your life. If people find it boring that's their problem. Keep on with what you are doing and don't change a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. B,

Your stories, and blog are never boring. When finally get to sit down from my chores, and open my computer, I look forward to reading your posts. Sometimes the posts are long. and that's okay because your explaining your story. I have no complaints, please continue writing because I'm a fan.

  46. My mother used to tell me that she liked looking at the pictures on my blog, and the dogs, but the stories about the horses were boring. Family; gotta love their honesty or opinions or whatever that is. I don't think your stories are boring. I particularly loved the ones about taking your mom to the lake and Annie.

  49. I don't find your blog boring at all. I read the important part as I scan with my eyes, if something I see as in words that interests me, it's that bit I read. So I don't read every word due to time...Hugs Mxxx

  50. Buttons you are never boring from my point of view.
I don't live on a farm nor do we have snow here in Perth.
We both do have fibromyalgia so understand each other from that point of view although you are still young compared to my advanced years. We both hurt at times.
I look forward to reading about the calving, the coming of spring to your world and yes, the wedding so don't ever think you are boring.

  51. What is boring to some is interesting to others... I think we all find our own lives a bit lackluster day after day -- but what else are we going to blog about? Someones else's life? Lol.

I admit I tend to be a skimmer when reading -- picking out the highlights, but I stop at the photos for a longer timer as I feel they tell the real story.

    Have a great day!

  52. WEll I may be new but your world is so interesting and different from mine I enjoying seeing a different lifestyle one I find refreshing and oh to be alone with the beauty of nature and of animals would be a dream for me, so no don't change a thing, your blog gives hope, peace, tranquility, that I can't find here and this slowly killing me, so if I can dream a few moments everyday about the kind of life you share, than that only helps me...don't ever ever ever change please I just found you. I have some phobias that I can't overcome and living in an apt hurts, but reading about you your labour your farm your animals your silence when get it, it's worth more money to me than you can ever imagine, you help me instead of hurting me, don't change a thing please Buttons, I'm pretty sure most your visitors would agree never stop writing about your life...never stop

    ReplyDelete
  53. Okay-where did you ever get the idea your blog was boring??
    NOT!

The one thing I love about homesteading is that no matter how many lambing seasons, sheep shearing, gardens, etc. it is NEVER the same year to year. Each year brings different challenges, different successes.
Keep on posting your adventures. I for one would love to read them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well honestly, there are only so many things to write about. Our material is shaped by the things around us. You probably have very few posts about commuting via bus, while I have very few posts about cows. :-)

You have not been dull yet, Buttons.

  55. You are far from boring! It makes me think that I must be boring tho! My Journal follows me around every day and I'm beginning to wonder why anyone cares about what I am doing...guess it's for myself. At least you are writing incredible stories. I can identify with your pink cadillac boots, tractors, critters and farm work. You don't have to change a thing for my sake.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm new to your blog so no boredom here! I love your stories and your photos too. Keep them coming!

    ReplyDelete
  57. My blog was once pronounced "boring" by a comment left many years ago. It occurs to me that there's not a whole lot of spicy action in my life, but I'm not that kind of girl. Plus, I'm new to your blog and I've never read about calving before. I will be riveted, I promise!

Love the blue sky in your picture. I never get bored with that!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Simply put, no two calving seasons are the same, just as no two calves are the same. Like, how many times will you tie the calves legs to the truck in order to pull it out of it's mom, when it's stuck? (Ouw, poetry!) Whatever.

Hope the wedding plans are coming along just fine. If nothing else, the wedding will have a distinctive odour to it. That's going to be news!

    blessings and Bear hugs!

  59. I dare say if any of us were to do what you did we would come up with the same conclusion. But what is life if not repetitive? I am just happy someone is the least bit interested in what I have to say : )

    ReplyDelete
  60. Nope not boring at all and I always enjoy my visits here.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I enjoy visiting you, hearing about your journeys into the bush, how your mother is doing, those fancy pink cadillacs--you name it. I would tell you if you had spinach in your teeth, and would hope you would do the same.

  62. One thing about your writing is it is never boring. Love your sense of humor and style. Each blog adds something new to it they are never the same. Keep up the wonderful writing. Happy Spring to you...

  63. Your stories are anything but boring, Miss Buttons!! You are very creative, and I love your sense of humour and the colourful way you look at the world. I really enjoy hearing about your life, with all the auctions, your Hero, girls, and Mom, your grand adventures (like that great train trip last year!) and the wonderful things you come across while haying, checking the cows, or heading into the bush to visit your rock.

You just keep being you - the rest of us think you are marvellous!
