Six years a Blogger

We are shaped and fashioned by what we love.
                       Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Time does fly when you are having fun. Six years ago today, I posted my first blog post. My motivation back then honestly, was to show my sisters what I actually did here on the farm. I am pretty sure they were not the only ones that thought since I did not have a “real job” that my days were free to enjoy life, in a lap of luxury. That makes me laugh today, but if you have sisters, I am sure you understand the thought process of my mind at that time.

After a launch, with only a couple of sisters, a brother who pushed me to write my thoughts and a few loyal friends that read my blog every time I posted back then, which was five days a week, I find myself still here today. I cannot believe it.

The World of Blog has changed my life in such a positive way. Being a farmer who spent most days alone, talking to cows and wildlife, I now have human friends all over the world. Friends, who have always been there to listen when I spoke, and who I listen to when they speak. It is a wonderful thing. There is nothing like a friendship that even though you have never met the person, you know you will always be there when they need you to listen, to give advice when asked, and a friendship that is not complicated, and based truly on a mutual respect and love of one another.

Over the years, I have written terrible grammatical error- laced stories. Stories, that have many punctuation mistakes, and some stories that may have been emotionally  difficult to read but, also to write. They have always been honest and from the heart. The way I think, has always been the way I write. I have tried at times, to fit or conform to the so-called traditional or normal way of blogging like some others, but have always come back to the basics. Back to the way I started in the beginning. My life, through stories and photos, “take it or leave it” I guess.

My plan and my hope will be to continue to blog the way I always have. It is not about the numbers, the money or the “Fame” of it. It has always been about the storytelling, the photos, and my sisters. That “sister thing” is just a joke. I now do not really care if they think I sit around all day. This is all about the wonderful people I have met here and hope to meet in the future.

I have some exciting news, I will be jetting off on a big adventure soon. During which I will not be posting, but I will be gathering stories. I am not going to elaborate right now, but my hope is to possibly meet some blogger friends on the west side of this country. I may need your help with a plan. I will talk more about that another day.

Today, I just want to thank all my fellow bloggers for being the best family I have never met. (I have met a few of you). I also want to thank my loyal readers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for sticking with me and letting me share my world, my way.  Hugs B

Your blog is lovely, I like the farm news and seeing your cows with hats.

  7. I've enjoyed every single post and have loved learning more about you and your farm life (which I totally understand). I started on February 22nd, 2008 and have not missed a day. Can't say enough about the impact all of my blogging friends have had on me. It's amazing, how much we have been exposed to, had we not been doing this.
Can't wait to read about your new adventure.

  8. Talk about errors. "It's amazing, how much we have been exposed to BECAUSE we have been doing this."

  9. Congratulations! Isn't it fun to look back and see you you have evolved. Some of your stories are still with me. There was one about carpeting that someone had given you. At that time in my life, I would have really appreciate someone giving me carpet. Glad to know you my friend.

    1. Michaele I love that story too it came right from the heart. Sadly the woman who gave such a welcome gift passed away this year (much to young) but her generosity will be remembered forever. Linked the story on my side bar. The welcome gift. I wish you had someone like that when you needed it. Glad to know you too. hugs B

  13. Who you are comes through loud and clear in your writing. Blogs are a unique platform, and each blogger is unique, which is why they are fun to read--even if they are not fun to write sometimes. Writing is hard work, contrary to what some people may think. You have been able to combine your passions for farming and writing into some wonderful stories. Enjoy your respite, and have some fun. There will indeed be more to come. Cheers and Hugs, C

  15. Your stories always touch my heart, be they about cows in hats, your mom's chair, her hands, her knitting, your bush, your special place out there, and you Hero and his ladders. Of course this is because you write from the heart. Your stories remind me of those by Kent Haruf, one of my most favorite writers, who passed away not long ago. He wrote about farm life on the high Plains of Colorado, also from the heart.

Your stories and pictures have always reached our inner core I think .. that is why you have so many wonderful friends now.
You let you guard down and spoke about your own home truths ... it reached us all in one way or another.

  28. I can relate to the sister thing entirely! Although, they think blogging is a just another luxury I have because of all my spare time. Like you, on the farm, I spend my days largely alone, especially now with my kids gone back to school. Congratulations on six years and for building a community of your own.I am glad to be a part of it, even if that is only a very small part.

  29. Wow, 6 years!! That's awesome Buttons ... congratulations! I rarely miss reading one of your blogs. You always have an interesting and unique perspective, plus I love that you take me right back to the farming life. And of course, you inspired me to start blogging myself. Thanks for all the great stories, and I look forward to many more. Cool about the western trip too. I really want to hear more about that!

  31. Well Buttons, you're pretty easy to stick with! Congratulations on your blogaversary! Maybe while you are off I'll have a bit of time to catch up on some of your posts that I've missed. When Shug's Mom got sick, passed away, is when I think your Mom was failing...and as you know, it takes a while to re-coop. I hope you have a wonderful trip and I can't wait to hear all about it.
