I like the laughter that opens the
lips and the heart,
that shows at the same time pearls
and the soul.
Victor Marie Hugo
I could not
think of a better way to celebrate the Day of Love then to share the gift of smiles. Random 5 Friday with Nancy seemed to be that perfect way.
1- So Bossy2 seems to be smitten with
my hat, after I let her wear it and take a few photos that one day she now
seems to think it is hers. While bending over to pick up a stick lying in the
snow she snatched it off my head so I pulled it out of her slobbery wet mouth
and placed it on her head then she wanted me to take her photo. This is not
looking good; I seemed to have created a Diva.
2- I tried the same thing with Red and
tried to convince her that she would look so beautiful in it and she could also
be famous. Her reply “It is Bossy2’s hat” I had a feeling this sharing thing
was not going to work. I placed that wet hat on my head and continued on my way
wondering if Red was waiting out for a better hat. All I have to say is that it
is a slippery slope.
3- Late last fall I had gathered up all
those Black Walnuts that tend to bounce off your head on those windy days and
blanket our yard. The plan was to take them in the house and dry them for the
winter. Well it seems life had gotten in my way and I never did pick up that
last container. I watch as a Red Squirrel sticks his head out of a crack in the
chicken coop wall, looks around and then scampers across the snow and disappears down a
supply tunnel in the snow only to turn up a hundred feet away right in front of
that container of nuts. He grabbed one turns to look at me and smiles, then
disappears once again down the supply tunnel hole and heads back to the chicken
coop. This is now a daily occurrence. You’re Welcome.
4- I have convinced My Hero that I have
found the secret to curing the flu. I had him drinking a concoction made of lemon
juice, lime juice and a whole lot of honey that I keep in a jug in the
refrigerator and I make him eat a whole lot of sauerkraut in our daily soups.
He is now cured and you may now call me Dr. Buttons. Who knew?
5- I was carded today. Do you remember
being carded when you were young and trying to get any alcoholic beverage? If
you were under 19 here in Canada or looked younger they always carded you or so
I have heard, not that I would know anything about that. Well that was not a
big deal but I was actually carded at a Value Village thrift store while buying
a bag of yarn. The reason was it was 20% off Seniors Day and the girl (who after
this episode in front of total strangers I really wanted to hug) could not
believe that I was over 60. After I showed her my driver’s license she still
could not believe it. I have to tell you this made my day, I actually skipped out
the door with smile on my face and possibly if this 100% wool makes me itch, a
huge bag that cost $11 of new hat wool for a certain Red Cow, not mentioning
any names.
Happy Valentine’s
Day everyone and BA I do hope this made you laugh. BA is my best friend since
we were five years old and she is sitting at home waiting and healing. BA has an
important message that she would like to share with everyone out there and if
you have a little time check back for Monday’s post.
Later.
that is so funny you being carded. Dh was in South Carolina and was flattered until it turned out everyone is when you buy alcohol!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a joyful post for valentines Day. Miss Nora is wishing everyone a hsppy Valentines day on my blog!

ReplyDeleteoh love those smiles so cute..
ReplyDeleteOh, Buttons, you did make me smile. :-D How wonderful that you were carded! lol Have a happy day, sweet lady. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat's cute you got carded. I got carded the other day for a bottle of wine - kind of ridiculous since I'm about a year short of 40.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, that flu cure... Are you sure he didn't just say he is cured, to not have to take your "medicine" any more????
ReplyDelete-ducking, running and hiding-
And a Happy Valentine's Day, to you!
Gentle hugs,
Tessa~
Brave soul that you are, Buttons, putting on a cow-slobbered hat! It sort of reminds me of extracting half-chewed bagels from my Ridgeback Charlie's throat when he couldn't choke them down (he would always try to swallow it whole, and gag.)
ReplyDeleteI love to be mistaken for younger - it just makes your day! Happy Valentine's Day :-)
ReplyDeleteFunny post - being carded - life goes in a full circle. Happy Valentine's Day to you and your girls.
ReplyDeleteWatch out, you may have to knit hats for all your cow-divas!
ReplyDeleteI think a certain Red Cow will look lovely in a pink and white creation.
Happy St. Valentines day!
❤️LMAO. I love waking up coming to Nancy's for this very reason! Starting the day with a smile!! Your diva cow is fabulous!! Please hug her for me. And tho I'm no diva, I like her style. Great post today. Happy V-day!
ReplyDeletehat loving cows....what a great start to my day
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day Buttons...you young chick you.
Thanks for the smile, B & Happy Valentines Day to you & yours, and the soon to be owner of the new red wool hat.xx
ReplyDeleteLove the drink concoction. My dad use to make me something similar when I was little, except that it was a hot drink.
ReplyDeletei do believe that basketball-sized hat has a taker! too cute.
ReplyDeleteand i like your cure. :)
Congratulations I'd love to be carded but as of yet Never, one look at my little face no one needs to ask boo-hoo. You do make me laugh, this time over Bossy2 and Red. I hope you can get a photo of your little squirrel I bet he is very thankful to you.
ReplyDeleteAw love that she loves your hat, too cute. The flu was a bad one this year and remedy drink sounds like one we used here and it worked great! Looks like you scored on the yarn too, nicely done B. Happy Weekending
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what you were going to do with all those hats you were knitting. Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours, dear Buttons.
ReplyDeleteBossy2 is so cute, and definitely a Diva! I cure hubber's colds with onion and garlic soup. No one wants to be near him for a day or two, but it works! I'm not over 60, and one day a salesperson asked me if I would like to use my seniors card (which I don't have). I never shopped there again! Happy V day B!
ReplyDeleteI think I heard on the news that cows in Canada now all want knitted hats! :-) You've started something . . .
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your squirrel is thankful for the gift of the walnuts and is smiling and telling all his friends about you.
And congrats on being carded!! That's cool. Hugs to you, B. Happy Valentine's Day!!
Well! Dr. Buttons...I am thrilled that you were carded at Value Village! Not just because it made me laugh so hard, but also because I didn't know that Value Village had a discount for 60+ 'seniors' ...
ReplyDeleteCan I just say how much I love your joie de vivre and sense of humour! *hugs*
Getting carded is way better than getting flowers!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to remember your flu "cure" and try it. How long did it take to work?
Love the hat loving cow! Too funny.
Very funny about being carded. Love the hat on your cow. Great post and images!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have guessed you were over 60 either! :-D
ReplyDeleteBossy2 has such a nice hair do (wig) as I call them. To cover it up with a hat? Too cute.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE getting carded...
Happy Valentines Day!
Cheri
You really have created a diva! So cute. Keep the hat photos coming! I'm glad you found something that works to cure your colds. Sauerkraut is great for you because of the fermentation. Adds good bacteria to your gut!
ReplyDeleteTime for two fancy hats! So funny about being carded. Have a good day, doctor. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my the carfef story made me laugh aloud.... :D
ReplyDeleteI bet you actually left those nuts there on purpose for Mr. Red Squirrel, didn't you?! That's funny! Love your cows' hats! :)
ReplyDeleteI can already see the girls next winter, each with their own special hat. Skip a few stitches on each side for a ear fitting cow hat. This could be a new money crop for you. Cow Hats!
ReplyDeleteGreen walnuts water covered will make great dye and it kills thistles. I bet you already knew that.
I have yarn envy. I am out!
I always love it when I am carded, they have to do it at Target when you buy any alcoholic beverage...always makes my day. I think I might keep your recipe for sickness in case I come down with a bug!! Don't know if I can do the sauerkraut tho.
ReplyDeleteB,
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day My Friend!!!
Love the pictures of your adorable cows.
Okay hand over all the yarn!!!!
I love the Bossy story. What a character. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I'm still chuckling about you being carded, that is AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you certainly shared a lot of smiles with this post. Every one of your entries made me smile. I love the idea of a bovine diva!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from R5F

ReplyDeletei guess i don't look as young as i feel!!
happy <3 day!!
You always make me laugh Grace. At first I was "Oh Coolllll!" Gracie got carded, that's such fun. And then I was shocked to hear that you might be over that age...no way are you anywhere near 60!
ReplyDeleteJen
Lol Buttons! It's been ages since I've been carded. I quite forgot that happens. Love Miss Divine Diva! Happy Valentine's :)
ReplyDeletelove the smiles, Dr. Buttons -lol-
ReplyDeleteFun post -- young-looking Dr. Buttons who gives hats to cows. There may be a book in there . . . :)
ReplyDeleteDear Dr. Buttons! I think that is going to stick with you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrfic Friday post! Put a great smile on my face as I call it a day! Thanks for that! I got carded within the past year when I was out with my daughter, getting a 6 pack for the hubby on my way home. Of course, with my gray hairs peeking out, I didn't think I'd actually get carded by the little darling that went to school with my middle child, so I didn't actually have my ID on me. When she asked, "do you have ID?"...well, "actually no, but my 23 year old daughter here does"... hmmm. Aloha and have a terrific weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I have yarn envy! Will check back for BA post!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness the thing with the cow and the hat is so cute.
ReplyDeleteInteresting cure for the flu. My hubby is sick right now so maybe I should have him try that.
Great buy on your yarn.
Your post has me smiling my friend. Thanks, I needed that. That hat is so cute on your cow. I think you have created a monster..
ReplyDeleteHugs~
I am thinking a new hat is in order...perhaps a red one to match her coloring??
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely Valentines Day! getting carded.....That had to make you feel great! The honey sounds good in that cure for what ails you....I'm not sure of the other stuff. Might be better off with the flu!!!
ReplyDeleteCindy Bee
Oh that nose, it is {almost} kissable! Rebecca
ReplyDeleteLots of wonderful smiles today! How fun to get carded! The cow in the hat is really cute, that's funny that she has claimed it as her own! :)
ReplyDeleteOh to be carded for that reason! It makes me smile now.
ReplyDeleteBossy2 looks so cute in that hat. :) What a wonderful reason to be carded. Congrats! I was given the 55 y o discount at a major chain not too long ago. I'm 3 years away from that, so I was quite perturbed. But I kept my mouth shut and kept the discount. I figured if she was going to insult me, at least I could save a few bucks to soothe my humiliation. :)
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than to have to prove you are OLD!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteOh, Buttons, your little diva is something, isn't she? So cute and playful. Aren't you nice to leave that little squirrel some buried treasure for the cold winter! Isn't it wonderful to be carded once again....remember when it was such a hassle? You are always young at heart and that is the best way to be young. Hugs xo Karen
ReplyDeleteSmiling!
ReplyDeleteWhat a hoot about that hat. Cows are so funny. I love that you got carded. I can't wait to see the new hat.
ReplyDeleteWell you certainly gave me a big smile Buttons ! :))
ReplyDeleteThis age thing is quite interesting, I have white hair and a big white beard. My wife's hair is a dark red. On more than one occasion people have mistaken her for my daughter! Neither one of us knows what to make of that, exactly.
ReplyDeleteI got carded a while ago. A card from the Canadian government saying that I'm a bona fide senior citizen. It did not make me feel different about anything. To me, I'm the age that I am, and that's that.
I hope you are not cowed by the treatment your hat has received from the girls.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
What a lovely face :)
ReplyDeletewith her head held high, bossy2 looks like russian royalty! so adorable!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely made me smile! Fun stories!
ReplyDeleteYou made me smile on the inside.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking--I'd never heard of anyone being carded for buying yarn! Glad you cleared it up that she was checking for your discount approval. That would make one's day.
ReplyDeleteYour cows are all so tame? I can't imagine being 'carded' for yarn! That's hilarious!!
ReplyDeletewhere was i when the post was on?
ReplyDeleteand if i was hero, i would like be better IN NO TIME FLAT if someone mentioned a concoction like that...A FREAKIN' WALKING MIRACLE I would be!
xoxox
COW NOSES! Love!
ReplyDeleteAnd I chuckled that you got carded. You have such a way of telling stories.
